By Kimberly Locke (661-4505) – The annual “Feed the People” program is being carried out for the fourth consecutive year in the Cayo district.  A team of 52 missionaries arrived in Belize on December 10 to distribute the food hampers to needy families from the Cayo district.

This program was established 4 years ago by the Missionary Baptist General of Texas, under the stewardship of Reverend G. V. Clark.

The box of groceries given to the families includes rice, beans, flour, butter, chicken and shortening, among other food items.

When added up, each box carries a price tag of about BZ$100.

A total of 75 food hampers are being given out daily for 3 days, at separate locations in Blackman Eddy, Ontario and Esperanza villages.

The recipients are chosen months in advance and given a ticket which they use to redeem for the box of groceries. Coordinator of the “Feed the People” program Pastor Marjorie Shaw says that the missionaries chose Belize because of a long-established friendship with her late father, Charles Shaw.
