Sunny weather; but change is on the way

The sun is out this Monday, a welcome relief from the rain; but don’t put away the rain gears just yet.

A cold front will cross Belize later today and tonight. And with it is coming wind, rain and cool temperatures for the major part of the week.

The general forecast, which covers the period up to Wednesday is calling for cloudy to overcast skies, with some outbreaks of showers, periods of rain and isolated thunderstorms over most areas, but more so over the south and coastal areas of the country.

Today will be sunny with a few cloudy spells.

Then conditions are expected to deteriorate as the cold front approaches and moves across the country. Winds are northerly to northwesterly at 5 to 15 knots; but will increase to between 15 and 25 knots with higher gusts tonight.

The sea condition will be choppy becoming rough tonight.  The Belize Weather Bureau has issued a small craft warning for rough seas starting tonight.

High temperatures today will be around 82°Fahrenheit along the coast; 86°Fahrenheit inland and a comfortable 73°Fahrenheit up in the hills.

Then there will be a 14 degrees drop in temperatures along the coast, falling to 68°Fahrenheit.  Inland the drop will be even more significant reaching 64°Fahrenheit at dawn.

It will be a chilly 60°Fahrenheit up at the exposed areas of the Mountain Pine Ridge and along the Maya Mountains in the south of the country.  There was a low tide at 7:51 am today.

A high tide will occur at 2:03 pm and another low tide at 8:26 pm.  The sun rose at 6:25 am and will set at 5:33 pm.  The moon comes up at 10:35 am and will set at 11:06 pm.

The extended forecast, valid through to Wednesday is for cloudy to overcast skies and windy conditions.  Expect some outbreaks of showers, periods of rain and isolated thunderstorms over most areas, especially over the south and the coast.

And that is a look at the weather, with information provided by forecaster Michael Gentle at the Belize Weather Bureau.
