Corporal Gino Peck awaits sentencing
Posted: Friday, January 31, 2014. 11:42 pm CST.
AARON HUMES Reporting: This Friday may be tainted by the events surrounding the Peck sentencing, but it was nonetheless a memorable day for Director of Public Prosecutions Cheryl-Lynn Vidal for another reason.
She along with attorneys Jacqueline Marshalleck and Magali Marin-Young was elevated to Senior Counsel of the Bar.
The ceremony took place before Chief Justice Kenneth Benjamin this morning.
DPP Vidal has been serving in that office for more than a decade and ascended to the top post some four years ago.
The office is widely reported as having a rate of conviction for criminal offences as low as 3% but is of course hamstrung by resources and smart work by defense attorneys.
Marin-Young is in private practice as is Marshalleck, who is a former president of the Bar Association.
