KIMBERLY LOCKE Reporting: The first ever Maya Mountain Adventure Challenge is set to commence on Thursday morning in the Cayo district.

The race opens at 10:01 am on Thursday and will remain open for four grueling days.

According to organizers, the race will utilize mountain biking, canoeing, rappelling, spelunking and hiking on a route that will take participants from Cahal Pech in San Ignacio town, through the Mountain Pine Ridge, down the Macal River and back up the Cahal Pech hill.

Teams from different countries, including host country Belize and the United States will be competing for thousands of dollars in prizes.
