Port of Belize to return to normal operations

AARON HUMES Reporting: Last week a barge accidentally crashed into the main pier at the Port of Belize Limited, severely damaging multiple beams in the structure.

As of this morning, those beams are repaired and in place and the pier is operational, the only caveat being that no heavy weights are allowed on the pier.

CEO Arturo Vasquez told us that they await the results of the engineer’s stress test on the concrete surface and until then operations are delayed.

But he expects that final confirmation will come no later than this afternoon after final tests.

Until then there are two cargo ships waiting to load but other operations are ongoing and the port is open and operational.
