PATRICK E. JONES Reporting: Quick work by police in Placencia led to the arrest of a man who allegedly stole an IPhone from a woman this morning on the Peninsula.
The suspect has been identified as 37 year old Albert Betancourt, a resident of Placencia village.
According to reports, the woman – a tourist – was walking on Main Street in Placencia around 6:30 am when her IPhone was stolen, probably by pick-pocketing.
When she realized her phone was stolen, the woman went straight to the police and a search was conducted in the Sunset area of the village.
That search led to the apprehension of Betancourt and during a search of his person, the stolen IPhone was found in his possession.
Albert Betancourt has since been arrested and charged for the crimes of theft and handling stolen goods.
Meanwhile, also in Placencia, another man has been arrested and charged after he was allegedly caught shoplifting.
The suspect is identified as Solomon Coleman, who police say is of no fixed address in Placencia village.
Coleman is originally from Forest Home village, Toledo, and police say he was caught stealing from a Chinese Grocey Store in Placencia village.
Coleman has been charged for the crime of theft.
The item he was allegedly caught stealing has been recovered.
