Tennis shoes distribution (One World Running)

JUAN CAAL Reporting: Members of the One World Running, a team of volunteers from the United States are in Punta Gorda town for the annual Fun Run.
The event this year is being held in conjunction with Special Olympics Belize with support from SMART telephone company.
Today, members of the One World Running group were busy distributing tennis shoes and T-Shirts to children from various schools in the Punta Gorda area, including St. Peter Claver, St. Benedict, PG Methodist, Little Flowers and the Toledo Community College.
Tennis shoes and T-shirts have also been given to members of the PG police department and the education department.
The annual Fun Run is scheduled for Wednesday morning and will see young children and children with special needs doing a 1.5 mile race.
Older children and adults will do a 3 mile run starting from the Punta Gorda Central Part starting at 6 o’clock on Wednesday morning.
National director of Special Olympics Belize Elodia Bautista says that the Fun Run on Wednesday morning will give the participants, especially the children with special needs a chance to get some exercise while at the same time socialize and be a part of the community.
Similar Fun Runs will also be held in other parts of the country through to the weekend.
The visiting team of Volunteers from One World Running includes 10 students from Ohio University and 8 from Boulder Colorado.
