AARON HUMES Reporting: A jury of nine this afternoon acquitted Belize City resident Vanzie Lamb, 44, of rape after nearly three hours in deliberation.
The trial’s conclusion before Justice Troadio Gonzalez had been delayed since last week as a juror recovered from a bout of illness.
Lamb had been accused of abducting and sexually assaulting a 14 year old girl from Punta Gorda in May of 2009 while she was visiting Belize City for a party.
The girl told the court that she was taken by Lamb from the scene of a car crash to his house where he allegedly beat, raped and tied her up.
She reported the matter to police after escaping her binds the following morning.
Lamb, who was without an attorney denied the charge, claiming that he was at home with his mother and daughter at the time of the incident.
