DEVON YOUNG Reporting: A number of primary schools in the Corozal district have receive much needed teaching aids courtesy a visiting group from the United States.

Resource Center International, a group of Rotarians, has been coming to Belize for a while now to help out with much needed assistance to schools, and on this their seventh mission, 11 primary Schools in the Corozal District are benefitting from their benevolence.

According to Amber Fisher who is the Director of the Ohio Rotary Club, the initiative is the brainchild of Mel Hunick who coordinates the collection of the necessary resources needed by the different educational institutions.

“He gets them from many different sources such as libraries and businesses that donate computers and software,” says Fisher.

“He has to be resourceful to put it altogether,” she says.

After collecting all of the supplies, the donation is then shipped off to Belize for distribution and members of the group who come down with the supplies assist in setting them up at the different schools.

According to Karen Hu Chin, principal of San Antonio Government School, the donations will be of great help in accomplishing a computer lab at the institution.

Other schools that received assistance this week are the Paraiso RC School, Church of Christ and Caledonia RC Schools.

“It’s encouraging to see the dedication of the teachers and administrators,” says Fisher, pointing out that she is confident that “many important things will be accomplished, so it is good to be helping.”
