Stann Creek youth chosen for Personality of the Month award

PATRICK E. JONES Reporting: The Toledo-based Teens Belize organization has announced the award of an honorary citation to Juana Meza from the Stann Creek district for her outstanding achievements in education.

In 2010, Meza gained national spotlight when it was announced that she received 13 Grades 1 and two Grades 2 in the CXC examinations.

In an interview with the organizers of the Personality of the Month award, Meza says that she intends to pursue a career in nursing.

She credits her parents for doing a good job of instilling in her the discipline to keep reaching for her dreams through education.

Meza identifies a lack of ambition as one of the greater challenges facing her generation today.

“We’re in a world where people no longer try to be unique, they no longer wish to be themselves but prefer imitating others,” says Meza.
