BELIZE EDUCATION EXCELLENCE SOCIETY

“A founding committee has been formed to set up the Belize Education Excellence Society”.

This initiative has two general objectives:

1. To provide a PULL-UP on general performance in education, by providing motivational, networking and material incentives, facilities and rewards for high performers, such that all others in our education system will want to perform higher as our wider society start to place higher value on high performance and performers in education.

2. To provide incentives and facilitation for socialization of the best minds in Belize…starting at the high school and sixth form level…so that high performers get to meet frequently and know each other better, to build their networks with each other and the wider professional community, and with continuous professional team-building exercises, develop a culture of cooperation, collaboration, coordination and cohesion.

The group hopes to pool efforts and resources at home and abroad to meet its objectives.

This initiative is the brainchild of the chairperson, Mr Richard Harrison, a Belizean entrepreneur whose family could not afford to send him to study beyond sixth form, but who benefited from helpful networks and scholarships from the US and UK governments to pursue his BSc Pharmacy and MBA degrees respectively.  He believes that a lot of progress has been made in access to education in Belize, but that a lot more needs to be done to improve quality, competitiveness and performance.  He suggests that this kind of socialization of the best Belizean minds from a relatively young age, at home and abroad, will yield high dividends for the development pace and potential of Belize.  Mr. Harrison is known to have been the brainchild of La Ruta Maya Belize River Challenge, another very successful community project, which he started while with his family business at Big H Enterprises in 1998.

If you are interested in receiving more information about this non-profit initiative, or to offer to help or contribute in any way….please contact chairperson Richard Harrison or our secretary Adelaide Sabido or by calling 501 620 3535 or sending an email to: [email protected] Our vice-chairperson is Samiyyah Andrewin Miranda, treasurer is Jessica L. Habet and legal representative is Agnes Segura-Gillett. Mrs Karina Sabala Quiñonez will coordinate our efforts in the USA.
