Monday, April 14, 2014. AARON HUMES Reporting: This past weekend in Belize City saw four separate shooting incidents in a span of less than 48 hours, causing three deaths and injury to a fourth man.

Around 10:00 a.m. Saturday on Dolphin Street near Wesley Upper School, a man identified as 20 year old Glen Alvarez, aka “Dut”, was riding a bicycle toward the bridge crossing Collet Canal at the junction of North Creek Road and Fairweather Street when a single armed man, also on bicycle, rode up from behind and fired several times at Alvarez, who was injured in his left leg.

One person is detained by Police, pending investigations.

Nine hours later, police were called out again to Mike’s Club at the corner of West Canal and Regent Street West, where around 7:00 p.m., 27 year old Darrington Lauriano was shot three times by a lone gunman of dark complexion, who entered the bar through a back entrance located on the east side of the building near the canal.

The gunman shot Lauriano, who was seated on a barstool, in the side of his forehead, left side of the nose, right side of the cheek and right arm.

Lauriano was pronounced dead on arrival at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital.

It was a busy Saturday night at the club and there were several witnesses, including Minister of Human Development Anthony “Boots” Martinez, a member of the establishment for 20 years.

He said today that almost as soon as the shots were fired he was on the floor while others tried to run, and when he got up, he saw Lauriano apparently dead and lying on his side.

The Minister said he knew of Lauriano but had no idea what he was doing there, as he was not known to frequent the establishment, and he says he would not have been there himself if he had known there would be violence.

Martinez is an avid dominoes and billiards player and sponsors a team which practices at Mike’s, but he says they will practice elsewhere for the time being.

Lauriano was recently charged with burglary, in November 2013, along with a female minor for the theft of over $80,000 and previously beat a murder charge.

Three hours later in Rhaburn’s Alley on the Northside of the City in the Pickstock Division, 57 year old Alfonso Cruz, according to police reports, was with friends when a lone gunman rode up on bicycle and opened fire. Cruz was hit to the left side of the chest and left lower back and he was pronounced dead twenty minutes later at the KHMH.

Indications are that the gunman allegedly pointed at someone else first but the gun jammed and he went a short distance away to check the gun, then came back and shot Cruz.

Police are investigating.

And around 10:40 pm Sunday, 18-year-old Kevin Rodriguez of #8814 Jane Usher Boulevard was seen with apparent multiple gunshot wounds to the upper and lower part of the body.

Initial investigation by police reveals that Kevin Rodriguez was walking outside for about five minutes out of a family friend’s house where he temporarily resided and  shortly after the sounds of several gunshots was heard coming from outside and upon checks made outside Kevin was seen lying motionless in the yard.

3 slugs and 3 expended 9mm shells were found at the scene.

The body of Kevin Rodriguez was transported to the K.H.M.H.Morgue there he was pronounced dead at 12:26 a.m. today, Monday.

Police investigations continue.
