Thursday, May 15, 2014. AARON HUMES Reporting: There have been complaints from the rank and file of the Police Department that certain officers are being favored with promotions and the attendant perks.
CEO in the Ministry of National Security George Lovell made it clear that there are no such favorites of either Commissioner Allen Whylie or Minister John Saldivar, as in the case of officers above the rank of Inspector the Security Services Commission makes the decisions and the Commissioner, aided by the results of examinations and other criteria, does so for the junior ranks.
But the CEO did confirm that some senior officers have in fact had their promotions to ranks they now hold confirmed and a list of recommended promotees is before the Commission.
There are a few familiar names on the list, including now Superintendent Marco Vidal, Head of Special Branch and former head of the Gang Suppression Unit (GSU).
His post is actually ranking at Assistant Commissioner as one of the major departments of the Police.
But he will be expected to grow into the position rather than be skipped up the ranks prematurely.
In addition a candidate has been identified for the post of Deputy Commissioner, last held by Elodio Aragon, Jr., who has retired to pursue politics.
His name, not revealed, is before the Security Services Commission as well.
