Monday, May 19, 2014. AARON HUMES Reporting: Whether it actually works is open for debate, but Belize City’s Catholic residents were out in numbers on Sunday evening for the Annual Guadalupe Procession to raise prayers to the saint.

Our Lady of Guadalupe is the Patron Saint of the Americas and Mexico and it is traditional to pray to her for protection against natural disasters, particularly hurricanes.

The hurricane season begins in less than two weeks on June 1 and concludes on November 30.

The procession carried on through the principal streets of Belize City after services at Holy Redeemer Cathedral.
