Wednesday, May 28, 2014.ORANGE WALK BUREAU Reporting: The Belize Police Department’s Quick Response Team is currently undergoing operations designed to rid streets of Orange Walk Town and surrounding villages of bad elements, firearms, ammunition and drugs.
On Monday, May 25, the QRT team searched a group of young men gathered under a tree in Yo Creek Village.
Authorities did not find anything incriminating on any of the eight persons but when they search the area, they found a black Pen Gun.
Police also found two green Miniflare cases which contained fourteen (14) live Miniflare caps and two expended caps which are consistent with .22mm caliber ammunition.
The gun did not have a serial number.
Under the circumstances police arrested twenty year old Edgar Cardenas, Belizean Laborer of Santa Cruz Village; twenty two year old Edwin Mancia, Belizean Laborer of San Antonio Road; twenty four year old Roger Castillo; twenty year old Adrian Castillo; twenty five year old Aaron Garcia; twenty four year old Rodney Castillo; seventeen year old Jeffery Castillo and twenty year old Jose Sandoval, all Belizean Labourers of Yo Creek Village.
The accused were escorted to the Orange Walk Police Station where they were jointly arrested and charged for Kept Prohibited Firearm.
They appeared in the Orange Walk’s Magistrate Court on Tuesday where they pleaded not guilty and were remanded to the Belize Central Prison until their next court appearance on July 7th, 2014.
