Wednesday, June 11, 2014. PATRICK E. JONES Reporting: The Belize Police Department is changing the way recruits are taken into the Police Academy for training to become police officers.

According to a press release issued by the Police Press Officer, the entrance exam, which will now be prepared and administered by the National Police Training Academy, will “evaluate the applicant’s knowledge, skills and abilities to be a successful police officer.”

The press release goes on to explain that persons wishing to join the police department must be able to read and comprehend material relating to policing and its procedures.

The next entrance exam for persons wishing to join the Belize Police Department, according to the press release, is set tentatively for the end of July, but those new recruits will have to prove themselves in four areas, namely “Math Skills, Reading Comprehension Skills, Language Skills and Writing Skills.”

To help potential recruits get ready for the entrance exam, the National Police Training Academy will offer a “study guide with sample questions,” and a tutorial will also be made available to prospective recruits starting this weekend.

Persons wishing to obtain this tutorial as well as the study guide can contact the National Police Training Academy at telephone number 822-2404 by Friday, June 13.
