Corozal family mourns baby’s sudden death

Monday, June 30, 2014. ORANGE WALK BUREAU Reporting: There is a heartbreaking story coming out of San Andres village, Corozal over the weekend. A nineteen day old premature baby died and the loss has left the family in mourning.

A post mortem examination will confirm the exact cause of death, but what is known at this time is that the mother, 29 year old Laura Pena got up for a 2 am feeding of the child on Saturday only to find the baby was not breathing.

The mother quickly summoned a taxi and rushed the baby to the Corozal Community Hospital but the doctors pronounced the baby dead on arrival.

According to the mother, the baby was delivered prematurely on June 9 weighing in at just 5 pounds 3 ounces.
