Friday, July 4, 2014. JUAN CAAL Reporting: Residents of rural Toledo district had their routine activities in Punta Gorda town disrupted this morning due to flooding of a portion of the Southern Highway.
The area near the Jacintoville bridge was inundated this morning due to overnight rains in the Toledo district.
According to some people who were stranded by the flooding, they noticed the rising level of the river since 4 am when the first vendors started making their way to the PG market with their produce.
After a 6 hour wait, motorists in large heavy vehicles started to cross the flooded area as the water started to subside.
Many people who work in Punta Gorda town were late to arrive this morning.
Market vendors were also inconvenienced by the unexpected flooding and are hoping that they will still be able to finish all their sales before having to head back home to their respective villages.
It is expected that the flood waters will be completely off the Southern Highway before the end of the day.
