Fire in Corozal
Wednesday, July 9, 2014. DEVON YOUNG Reporting: Two buildings were gutted by fire last night in the Finca Solana area of Corozal Town, leaving at least 9 people homeless.
One of the houses that were completely gutted was being occupied by 51 year old Jaime Tut and the other one by 44 year old Sandra Menenses and her 7 children.
Police and fire officials responded to the fire just after 9 pm on Tuesday and upon their arrival found two plywood with zinc roof houses engulfed in flames.
Initial investigations reveal that Tun left his house around 7:30 pm.
Ninety minutes later, Sandra Menenses says that she was inside her house situated about away from Tun’s dwelling when they were awakened by he fire at Tun’s house around nine o’clock last night.
While everyone was able to escape the burning buildings, they lost all their household items and personal belongings.
No one was injured. Initial indications are that neither of the houses was insured.
The cause of the fire is now under investigation.
