Man pleads guilty to fondling baby girl

Thursday, July 10, 2014. AARON HUMES Reporting: A man who fondled a 3 year old girl in the dark of night will spend the next three years in prison.

Senior Magistrate Sharon Frazer handed down the sentence to 23 year old Stanwell Bernardez who pleaded guilty to aggravated assault of an indecent nature.

Bernardez was spending the night with the child’s parents and had been socializing.

According to the girl’s mother she woke up around 1:00 in the morning of July 8 and found Bernardez and her child sitting on the living room sofa, whereupon she took her away from him.

The next day the child told her that Bernardez had touched her in a private area.

Bernardez told the court in his own defense that it was all an accident and he was only playing with the child. He asked to be let go with a fine but that is almost never accepted for sexual offenses.
