Friday, July 11, 2014. PATRICK E. JONES Reporting: Former minister of government in the Esquivel administration – 1984 to 1989 – Israel Alpuche, 71, has died.
According to family members, Alpuche passed away around 7 o’clock this morning at the Corozal community hospital, from complications due to diabetes.
Alpuche, affectionately known as Rally, served as Minister of Energy and Communication in the mid-1980’s.
During his tenure as Minister of Energy and Communication, he was instrumental in negotiating an agreement for the supply of electricity to Belize from Mexico, and also oversaw the expansion of telecommunication services in Belize.
Funeral service for the late Israel “Rally” Alpuche will be held on Saturday afternoon, July 12 at the St. Francis Xavier Roman Catholic Church in Corozal town.
The funeral mass is scheduled to start at 4 pm.
