Saturday, July 12, 2014. JUAN CAAL Reporting: Two new policing initiative could soon be implemented in the Toledo district. These are the Neighbourhood Watch program and the Citizens on Patrol/Special Constables initiative.
A meeting was held today at the Punta Gorda Sports Auditorium which had the participation of Alcaldes from rural communities in this district to discuss the two initiatives which are already functioning in other parts of the country.
Director of the Citizen on Patrol/Special Constable Program Rudolph Orio was the main facilitator at the meeting and he discussed crime statistics, particularly those from the rural areas and measures that can be implemented to reduce those numbers in a meaningful way.
Orio, who is a retired Senior Superintendent of Police, told the meeting participants that communication between the Alcaldes and the police is crucial in effectively dealing with the crime situation in the various communities.
This partnership he emphasized must be fostered and strengthened in moving forward.
This initial meeting to introduce the concepts of Neighbourhood Watch and Citizens in Patrol to the leaders of rural communities has been welcomed by those in attendance and the Alcaldes expressed their willingness to lend their support in order to effectively enforce law and order in their respective communities.
