Monday, July 14, 2014. PATRICK E. JONES Reporting: Belize Electricity Limited is projecting that electricity supply will be restored to Belmopan by midnight.
The nation’s capital was plunged into blackout at 7 am today due to a “failed power transformer at the substation serving the area.”
According to a statement released by the government-owned BEL this afternoon, crews continue to work on restoring power to Belmopan and “apologizes for any inconvenience caused by the extended and unscheduled power interruption.”
A late evening update from BEL says that “inclement weather during the course of the day presented challenges for the work crews; however, they continue with corrective action to restore power as soon as possible.”
BEL is still projecting a timeline of “by midnight” for the restoration of electricity supply to Belmopan.
