Latest marijuana smuggler to Hattieville given fine

Tuesday, July 15, 2014. AARON HUMES Reporting: 25 year old Quinn Arnold of Conch Shell Bay Road in Belize City had a short stay at the Hattieville Central Prison after pleading guilty last Friday to possession of a controlled substance before Magistrate Hettie Mae Stuart.

Today she was ordered to pay a fine of $1,000, of which she had to find $300 immediately, which she did.

On July 10 while visiting the prison, Arnold was strip-searched on entering the search area despite telling the officer she was menstruating.

The search promptly yielded a small bag containing ten grams of marijuana hidden in a private area of her body.

The rest of the fine is due by August 31, in default six months’ imprisonment.

The court agreed with Arnold that a further stay behind bars was not necessary as it was her first offence.
