Wednesday, July 16, 2014. DEVON YOUNG Reporting: Taxi drivers in the Corozal district who operate from the area in front of the Casinos at the Belize-Mexico border have started to complain that they are being squeezed out by their Mexican counterparts.
The drivers who are accustomed to take fares from those locations, say that taxi operators from Mexico have invaded their space and what’s worst, no one is taking the local cab operators seriously.
The complaint is that the taxi drivers from across the border are now monopolizing the parking spots, which is severely affecting their daily incomes.
It is a situation that bears watching and officials of the Transport Department in Corozal were not available for comment today.
