Monday, July 28, 2014. AARON HUMES Reporting: Thirty year old Martin Matura, a resident of 3188 Unity Street, was sentenced to two five-year terms by Senior Magistrate Sharon Fraser after pleading guilty to keeping a firearm and ammunition without a gun license.

Senior Magistrate Fraser stipulated that the sentences are to run concurrently, therefore Matura will only serve 5 years.

Two other persons, 49 year old Margaret Vasquez and her daughter, 21 year old Kimberly Betran, were charged jointly with Matura, but the charges against them were withdrawn.

Police reported that on July 26, they went to Unity Street along with the K-9 Unit and when the dog indicated to them that something was buried in the yard in the bathroom area, they dug into the ground about 4 inches down and found a black plastic bag that contained one .380 revolver with 3 rounds of ammunition.

Only Vasquez and Beltan were present at the time of the search. But the following day, Matura went to the police station and handed himself in, saying the the firearm was his.
