Thursday, July 31, 2014. JUAN CAAL Reporting: A two-day Indian Diaspora Conference will take place early next month in Corozal and Toledo.
The forum will begin with an opening ceremony in Corozal town on August 6 and conclude in Punta Gorda town.
This first of its kind event is being organized by the Corozal organization of East Indian Cultural Heritage and the southern chapter of the Belize East Indian Council.
Curlette Parham Palacio of the southern chapter of the Belize East Indian Council says that there is much excitement over the hosting of the conference, which is getting good support from the National Institute for Culture and History, NICH and other community participants.
“We came from India 200 years ago, and our roots here in Belize have long grown,” says Parham Palacio.
According to the Belize East Indian Council official “we are very much proud to say that our culture has contributed to the development of Belize. We want to keep developing our country. We know what the roots of our richness are.”
A highlight of next week’s Indian Diaspora Conference will be the showcasing of the East Indian culture, including their food, clothing and lifestyle.
