Friday, August 1, 2014. AARON HUMES Reporting: Belize City philanthropist Joel “Dara” Robinson has rallied the community to address, even if in a small way, the issue of hunger of our schoolchildren.
To benefit his feeding program on Dunn Street he has tapped into the power of reggae music and twice a year hosts tribute concerts to Jamaica’s Bob Marley and South Africa’s Lucky Dube.
Two years ago he added the “Ride for Hunger” which takes place on the weekend before the Dube tribute. That ride had over 300 participants, young and old, professional and amateur.
The annual Lucky Dube Tribute Concert is planned for this weekend with the usual theatre-screen production of Dube’s greatest hits, backed by local DJ’s and sound systems.
Showtime is Sunday afternoon, August 3, from 4:00 p.m. to midnight at the Birds’ Isle. As always, canned goods and other items are accepted and leave the negative behavior at home.
Tickets are now on sale for ten dollars; the slight increase is because of greater payments to the Police Department for security costs.
