Friday, August 1, 2014. JUAN CAAL Reporting: The Belize Youth Road Safety project team today stopped off at the at the campus of the University of Belize in Punta Gorda town.
During the visit, the team gave a 40-minutes session on road safety issues that affect youth.
President of Belize Youth for Road Safety organization Peter Williams says it is important for young people to be more aware of things such as distracted driving, speeding, drinking and driving and other issues that affect all road users.
Williams explains that the goal is make young people aware that “it is everybody’s responsibility to ensure the safety of their peers and everybody else’s safety when they are using the road. ”
During the presentation, the group used statistics based on Belize’s death rate due to road traffic accidents to drive home the safety message.
That message the Belize Youth for Road Safety organization is hoping to take to every part of the country, with the hope that increased awareness will result in a reduction in fatalities on our roads and highways.
