Saturday, August 2, 2014. PATRICK E. JONES Reporting: The first of a two-part workshop on gender-based violence started this morning at the Father Ring Parish Hall in Punta Gorda town.
Sponsored by the Ministry of Human Development, Social Transformation and Poverty Alleviation in collaboration with the United Nations Trust Fund to End Violence Against Women, the forum brings together Alcaldes and Village Council leaders from this district for the training.
Facilitator of the workshop is the Executive Director of the National Women’s Commission Pulcheria Teul who opened the forum by explaining to the attendees that unity is strength and encouraged them to foster a spirit of togetherness in their respective communities, especially as it relates to gender-based violence.
A tota of 104 community leaders in the Toledo district are expected to benefit from the series of workshops.
The follow up forum will take place at the Julian Cho Technical High School Sport Auditorium on August 9.
