Wednesday, August 6, 2014. AARON HUMES Reporting: The Belize City Council continues to grapple with issues of sanitation.

It does some collection of garbage on its own and as it prepares to transition out of the Belize Maintenance Limited contract it welcomed today the handover of three garbage compactor trucks by Ambassador Benjamin Ho of the Republic of China (Taiwan) on behalf of the Taiwanese government.

Ambassador Ho today said that one of his countrymen, Councilor Eric Chang, was instrumental in the acquisition.

Ambassador Ho paid tribute to the Council for its foresight and vision in transforming the Old Capital from a simple outpost to a bustling city that is only expected to grow and prosper.

As for Mayor Darrell Bradley, he said the trucks will be put to immediate use along with other needed material including street sweepers soon to be acquired.

The Council only had to pay for costs to get the trucks into Belize from Taiwan.
