Thursday, August 14, 2014. AARON HUMES Reporting: Belize City businesses are asking for a change in enforcement of trade licenses by the Belize City Council.
Reporting to residents at a public meeting on Tuesday night, Mayor Darrell Bradley indicated that the Council is listening to proposals from the business community to revise charges from the basis of square-footage of space used to an income basis.
It is something businesses are open to, he says, and the Chamber of Commerce and the Income Tax Department are also part of the consultative process, and any results would be implemented for the upcoming tax year.
The City is acting to prevent businesses moving out of the City to avoid paying trade license to the Council and in support of its “Open for Business” strategy.
