Thursday, August 14, 2014. AARON HUMES Reporting: The Immigration Department is cracking down on illegal employment of persons without valid work permits.

The latest to fall foul of the law is building contractor 24 year old Kevin Mejia, who today pleaded guilty to two counts of employing persons without a valid temporary employment permit.

Mejia hired Jose Gomez and Jose Santos, Honduran nationals who were found by authorities not to have any work permits when questioned.

Magistrate Hettie Mae Stuart fined Mejia $1,000 on each count and set separate dates in September to pay the fines.

The first $1,000 is due by September 15 and the rest by the end of the month, September 30, or in default six months’ imprisonment on each count.
