ursday, August 14, 2014. AARON HUMES Reporting: It slipped under the radar but on July 24, 2014, the Nasser family of San Pedro Town, Ambergris Caye was found not guilty of possession of ammunition without a gun license due to lack of evidence presented by the prosecution.
Nazim Nasser, his wife Jaziba and sons Jamil and Hilal were arrested on October 23, 2013 after police conducting a search at their home on the second floor of a supermarket on Coconut Drive found six .22 caliber rounds of unlicensed ammunition and 75 cartons of cigarettes.
All were remanded including the pregnant Jaziba, who was first to receive bail.
Magistrate Sherigne Rodriguez agreed with attorney for the Nassers, Richard “Dickie” Bradley, that the police, led by officer commanding San Pedro Superintendent Luis Castellanos, had failed to prove whether the ammunition was found within a safe in the house as testified to by two of the police officers who conducted the search, which the family says was only recently purchased.
He also contended that the information on the initial charge sheet had been changed.
