Saturday, August 23, 2014. PATRICK E. JONES Reporting: Members of the Santa Rosa Development Cooperatives in the Stann Creek district have undergone training in seedling and production management in cover structure agriculture production.
Ten members successfully underwent the day-long training which was facilitated by the Cooperatives Department with technical support from the Extension Service in the Stann Creek district.
During the course of the training presentations were made by Harold Westby and Adelita-Jones Arzu on how to expertly utilize cover structure, also known as green house.
A demonstration on planning and preparation of seedling management, production management in the cover structures and the use of bokashi and germinating mixed soil was also done.
According to a representative of the Cooperatives Department, the introduction to cover structure will take place after the land that has been allocated, is adequately prepared for the construction of the cover structure.
Funding for this part of the project is being provided by the Belize Audubon Society.
Among the presenters during the training were Luis Ayuso from the Belize Audubon Society’ Isai Pech from the Cooperatives Department, Isai Pech from the Extension Service in the Stann Creek district, Amir Pulido, Harold Westby and Adelita-Jones Arzu.
The series of training on covered structure agriculture production is being made possible through a project proposal submitted by the Belize Audubon Society and funded by the Global Environment Fund.
