Monday, September 15, 2014. AARON HUMES Reporting: Bahamian finance executives 29 year old Rohn Knowles and 34 year old Kelvin Leach were picked up by authorities at the Philip Goldson International Airport on Friday while trying to leave the country.

They are, along with American Robert Banfield, Canadians Brian De Wit and Cem Can and Belizean Andrew Godfrey, wanted by American federal officials who indicted them in a court in Brooklyn, New York City, New York last week for allegedly participating in a scheme to defraud the U.S. Government of BZ$1 billion in taxes.

Banfield has been picked up as well but the others remain on the run.

This morning before Magistrate Dale Cayetano, Knowles and Leach were arraigned for failure to declare possession of currency over BZ$10,000.

On September 12, as they were preparing to leave on a flight to Cancun, Mexico and ultimately the Bahamas, they were picked out and arrested, then questioned by the authorities of the Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU).

Leach was reported to be carrying US$6,300 while Knowles held US$6,000.

They pleaded not guilty and were each offered bail of $7,000, but before the paperwork could be processed they were served warrants of extradition to the United States on the federal indictment.

Their attorney is Senior Counsel Godfrey Smith.
