Monday, September 15, 2014. JUAN CAAL Reporting: The United Democratic Party (UDP) has endorsed a slate of candidates to contest the next Town Council elections in Punta Gorda on Wednesday, March 4, 2015.
The endorsement convention was held on Sunday afternoon, with guest speaker, the Mayor of Belize City Darrell Bradley.
The Mayoral candidate for the UDP in Punta Gorda is High School teacher Fern Gutierrez.
Joining her on the slate are: Ashton McKenzie, Luzanne Avila Gutierrez, Winston Chan, Lucy Cayetano, Steven Polonio and Aphane Avila.
In an interview with our Toledo Correspondent Juan Caal, Mayoral Candidate Gutierrez said that she and her team are committed to work together for the betterment of Punta Gorda town and to restore pride and dignity among its citizens.
Among the platform issues that the UDP team plans to address are: teenage pregnancy, violence against women, social development as well as infrastructure improvement.
If elected, Candidate Gutierrez says that she and her team will conduct the people’s business in a transparent manner and will work to networking with all stakeholders in moving Punta Gorda town to another level in terms of providing more opportunities for the citizens of PG.
To our knowledge, Fern Gutierrez is the first woman to offer herself as a Mayoral candidate in Punta Gorda town.
