National Garifuna Council Belmopan Branch under new Leadership

Wednesday, September 17, 2014. GWEN NUNEZ GONZALEZ Reporting: The National Garifuna Council Belmopan Branch expressed heartfelt gratitude to Mr. Romaldo Lewis for holding the leadership of the branch for 4.5 years.

Mr. Lewis has brought dynamism into the branch and brought back the strength the branch needed but now he is moving on to personal growth in Education.

The captain of the ship is now Mrs. Sandra Miranda with support from Stan Martinez (Vice President), Gwen Nuñez Gonzalez (Secretary), Desha Elijio (Asst. Secretary), Sheena Jackson (Treasurer), Jane Nuñez (Asst. Treasurer), and Philip Castillo, Romaldo Lewis, Sylvin Nuñez, Sr., and Dennis Lopez as Trustees.

The branch meets monthly to plan activities and follow up on matters from the National Board of Directors.

Presently, the branch is on a membership drive and invites all able Garinagu in Belmopan to be a member.  Activities are being planned leading up to Garifuna Settlement Day.

The branch also works closely the Youth Arm to ensure continuity.

It is preparing its contestant, Taruni Wanigi Gonzalez (also the Vice President of the Youth Arm), to participate in the National Miss Garifuna Belize Cultural Pageant in November.

This year’s celebrations will be under the theme “Mibe la Yanu. Gumesa la Wadagimanu. Bungiu Wába Wagia Larigi-Let’s Not Just Talk. Let the Work Progress. God Before us and We Behind.”
