Thursday, September 25, 2014. JUAN CAAL Reporting: A United States-based non-profit organization called Everything PG has donated book bags to primary school students in Punta Gorda town, Toledo.
The group is made up of Belizeans living in the US and their stated goal is to give back to the community of Toledo through various means, and the recent donation of backpacks to the children is one of them.
The head of the initiative Kimone Flores who goes by the online/screen name of PG Gyal, explains that the project started as a way to remember her grandmother Mrs. Andrea Gabriel “because that’s what my grandmother taught me through the way she lived her life.”
Flores says that “I want Everything PG to be a voice for the less fortunate.”
She says that it took the organization about a month, through a Facebook drive, to collect 150 backpacks mainly from Belizeans living in the United States.
“I am very grateful to all who donated and made this a reality and to give back to the place where I was born,” says Flores.
Children from the different schools in Punta Gorda town are the beneficiaries of the donation of backpacks.
Kudos to the organization called “Everything PG” for such a wonderful and generous initiative, proving that social media can be used to make a difference in our communities.
