Motorcyclist killed in collision

Wednesday, October 1, 2014. PATRICK E. JONES Reporting: A man from Santa Elena town, Cayo has died after a collision between a motorcycle and a pickup truck on Tuesday afternoon in Spanish Lookout.

23 year old Heber Flores died while undergoing treatment at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital.

According to police reports, Flores was driving a motorcycle on Center Road in Spanish Lookout around 1 pm on Tuesday when he collided with a pickup truck driven by 83 year old Oscar Perez, Sr., a Guatemalan national residing in Benque Viejo del Carmen town.

Perez, according to reports, pulled out of a parking lot onto the road, failing to give way to the oncoming motorcycle. The impact of the collision flung Flores to the pavement, rendering him unconscious with serious head injuries.

Flores was first taken to the Western Regional Hospital and later transferred to the KHMH where he died.

Perez complained of severe pain and was treated and released from the San Ignacio Community Hospital.

Oscar Perez, Sr., has been arrested and charged for the crimes of manslaughter by negligence, causing death by careless conduct, failure to yield when changing direction and driving a motor vehicle without due care and attention.
