Titan executives out on bail

Wednesday, October 1, 2014. AARON HUMES Reporting: On Monday, Bahamian executives of Titan International Securities, 29 year old Rohn Knowles and 34 year old Kelvin Leach, were granted bail of $100,000 after being detained in Central Prison since September 15 on a warrant for extradition.

Leach’s attorney Senior Counsel Eamon Courtenay confirmed today that as of this morning they had both met bail and were out free, subject to the court’s conditions.

Justice Denis Hanomansingh, during arguments, tried and failed to get Government’s attorneys to explain under whose authority the men were locked up when the warrant read to them made clear that they were to be brought before Chief Magistrate Ann-Marie Smith for her to decide what would be done with them.

He granted bail after ruling that the Government had overstepped its boundaries on the matter.

The two are to report to Queen Street Police Station, where their travel documents are already being held, and stay in the jurisdiction for the remainder of the case unless they apply to the Supreme Court for special circumstances.

They face a case of failure to comply with financial regulations for carrying more than the allowed currency on them when they tried to leave on September 12, and the Government continues to await the formal extradition request from U.S. authorities after they and four others were indicted in a New York court over a billion-dollar scheme to defraud the U.S. authorities of taxes.
