Friday, October 3, 2014. PATRICK E. JONES Reporting: There are reports of an incident involving illegal Guatemalan incursions into Belizean territory this morning.
Preliminary indications are that it happened at a Belize Conservation outpost inside the Chiquibul Forest Reserve where construction work is being done, in Belize territory, by Belizeans at the Valentin site.
According to a Belizean national who is in Peten, as many at three dozen Guatemalans, from a small village along the Belize/Guatemala came into Belizean territory this morning.
They were reportedly armed with machetes, and accosted a group of construction workers and their escort of Belize Defence Force soldiers this morning, allegedly threatening to burn down a building under construction for the group Friends for Conservation and Development.
