Early morning fire destroys building in Punta Gorda town

Saturday, October 4, 2014. PATRICK E. JONES Reporting: An early morning fire in Punta Gorda town today completely gutted a two-storey building.

Personnel of the PG Fire Service responded to the blaze just after 3 am today at the on West Street.

According to reports, the building was unoccupied at the time of the fire and was not hooked up to electricity.

Fire fighters quickly brought the blaze under control, preventing it from spreading to nearby structures.

The 25 feet by 30 feet structure had a wooden upper flat and the downstairs was concrete.

It is estimated that the contents of the house which were all destroyed to be around $10,000.

Neither the house nor its contents was insured.

An investigation into the cause of the fire is underway.
