Monday, October 6, 2014. AARON HUMES Reporting: The Ministry of Works and Transport and the Belize City Council today broke ground for a project designed to improve the City’s drainage in a key area.

Under the eight-month project a new canal will be constructed through Cinderella Plaza from the corner of Douglas Jones Street and Freetown Road through Baymen Avenue, on to Calle al Mar and outletting to the sea at Newtown Barracks.

Belize City Mayor Darrell Bradley says the project will allow them to address necessary improvements to drainage in the area.

Previously work was done in the Belama Phase 4 area in suburban Belize City.

The project in total costs $20 million.

The Mayor also says the improvements will help make the City more climate-resilient, a priority for Central Government and his administration.

The project will be carried out by Medina’s Construction.
