Friday, October 17, 2014. AARON HUMES Reporting: This weekend the Community Days of Healing initiative returns with an activity on Victoria Street, one of the many places in Belize City which has seen unprecedented human warfare.
We spoke to organizer Perry “Sticks” Smith today who said the event will have the usual games and fun activities as well as visits from local artists and beauty pageant contestants from the U.S.
Entrance and refreshments are free of charge as the program is sponsored through donations.
Co-coordinating the event with Smith is Marcia Argalles, who tragically lost her son, 9 year old Joshua Abraham, to gun violence on Independence Day of 2011.
Since then she says she has been working in her community to bring peace and thus enthusiastically supports this initiative.
Ms. Argalles told us that her biggest hope is that for at least this day, and in memory of her son, the people of the area come out and enjoy themselves without negativity.
Joshua’s killer has yet to be found.
The event starts at 9:00 a.m. on Victoria Street, which will be cordoned off.
