Wednesday, October 22, 2014. JUAN CAAL Reporting: The Maya Leaders Alliance is finalizing preparations for the first Maya Expo scheduled for this weekend in Belmopan.

The event is being sponsored by the Venezuelan embassy and will take place on Saturday, October 25.

Participants from all over Belize are expected to travel to Belmopan to showcase and promote the Maya culture and officials of the Maya Leaders Alliance are excited about the opportunity to put the spotlight on the indigenous culture.

Program Coordinator at the MLA Pablo Mis says that the traditional way of living of the Maya, including their culture, food and clothing will be prominently featured at Saturday’s Expo.

Of course Maya arts and craft will also be highlighted.

Among the cultural groups that will be featured at Saturday’s expo is the Oxlaju Baktun from Maya Center village, Stann Creek.

The Alcaldes from the various communities will also be taking part in the Expo to share with the public the role that these leaders play in the life of their communities.

The Maya Expo starts at 9 am on Saturday and runs through to 4 pm at the embassy of Venezuela in Belmopan.
