Wednesday, October 29, 2014. JUAN CAAL Reporting: For the sixth year running, an Organic Fair will be held in Punta Gorda town. The dates for the event are Friday, October 31 and Saturday November 1, 2014.
The annual Organic Fair is organized by Sustainable Harvest International, a non-profit organization operating in the Toledo district.
Coordinator of this weekend’s Organic Fair Candido Chun says the event starts on Friday morning at 8 am with an Organic Forum featuring various presentations on organic farming and food production.
The Organic Forum will be held at the multi-purpose building in Punta Gorda town, and will wrap up at 11 am.
That is because on Friday afternoon, starting at 2 o’clock, there will be tours of organic farms in the Toledo district.
The highlight of the Organic Fair will be on Saturday morning at the Punta Gorda Central Park where farmers will showcase their work as organic farmers.
There will also be displays by partner organizations working to promote the idea of organic farming.
During Saturday’s part of the Organic Fair, Sustainable Harvest International will be recognizing the Junior, Senior and Woman organic farmers of the year.
According to Chun “the message we want to send is that we want to encourage organic farming for families to see and be educated that there is alternative way of farming without using any sort of chemical.”
Sustainable Harvest International is campaigning hard for farmers to “go organic” and this weekend fair will be used as a teaching tool to show the community the benefits of farming without the use of chemicals.
All are invited to stop by the booths to learn more about organic farming.
