Thursday, November 6, 2014. AARON HUMES Reporting: 29 year old Elisa Hunter was knocked down on Tuesday morning near her workplace, the Belize Recycling Company at Mile 8 on the George Price Highway.
She spent most of Tuesday and Wednesday in hospital but was never able to make a full recovery and died on Wednesday evening around 5:00 p.m.
Her sister Esry Hunter says her injuries, mostly internal, were too severe and her condition not improving from the time she was hospitalized.
According to Esry Hunter she does not blame the Minister of Foreign Affairs Wilfred Elrington or his driver Amir Garcia for the accident, however, she did point out that the ambulance took almost an hour to show up, precious time that could have made a difference.
Hunter also says her sister was not distracted by her phone as alleged in some quarters.
The family wishes to move on and remember Elisa as a hard worker who provided for her family and while they welcome efforts to assist with the family’s expenses, it does not bring back their sister.
Hunter leaves behind a young daughter, Elise Bianca, whom Esry promised her late sister she would take care of in her memory, and other family and friends in her native Nicaragua.
Garcia has been served with a notice of intended prosecution.
Minister Elrington spoke with the family and has committed to taking care of Elisa’s last expenses in this difficult time.
