Suicide reported in Santa Rosa, Stann Creek

Saturday, November 8, 2014. PATRICK E. JONES Reporting: A family from Santa Rosa village, Stann Creek district, is today mourning to death of a loved one.

20 year old Ervilio Shal, died early this morning in what appears to have been a suicide.

According to one of his brothers, Shal arrived home around 7 o’clock on Friday night and spoke with his mother for a while, ate supper and then told his mother he was going to sleep.

Family members say that around 12:30 am on Saturday, one of his brothers arrived home and when he entered the bedroom, found his brother hanging from a beam, with his belt tied around his neck.

They quickly got Shal down and were taking him to Independence village for medical treatment, but he died on the way.

The family say Shal, who worked in the Maya Beach area of Placencia, never showed any signs of having any sort of problems and so this tragic event has left them with more questions than answers.

The body of the Santa Rosa village man is now at the morgue at the Southern Regional Hospital in Dangriga town.
