National basketball champion to play friendly game in Mexico

Thursday, November 27, 2014. PATRICK E. JONES Reporting: Belize and Mexico will square off in a friendly basketball game this weekend in Chetumal, Quintana Roo, Mexico.

According to a release from the Belize Basketball Federation, the friendly game will be played on Sunday night at the Paolo Martinez Sporting Complex in Chetumal.

The National Elite Basketball League Champion for 2014, the San Pedro Tiger Sharks will travel to Chetumal on Sunday for the game which is scheduled for tip off at 6 pm against Pioneros, a team from Quintana Roo.

The BBL press release notes that there has been an ongoing partnership over the years where teams from the Mexican province of Quintana Roo and Belize have been competing against each other.

“The Belize Basketball Federation anticipates that this strong relationship will continue to strengthen the sport of basketball in both Quintana Roo and Belize,” the release says.

Sunday’s friendly basketball game is the collaborative effort of the Quintana Roo’s Ministry of Youth and Sports, the Belize-Mexico Partnership Committee and the Belize Basketball Federation.
